Its been a few days since I've made an entry here. Unfortunately working for the man means you actually have to work, so I spent a week in Europe standing around in a monkey suit shaking hands, making deals, and generally wondering what's the point? But, it wasn't all bad. I was over there right when Intermot was ending and I took that time to try to get up to speed on all the news coming out of that event. One particularly intriguing (for me anyway) announcement was of the newly styled 2015 Kawasaki 650 Versys.
When trying to narrow down the motorcycles that I would consider to purchase, the 650 Versys always came up in my searches. I presume that was because it has adventure motorcycle styling, medium size in a 650cc twin that could be considered a good starter bike but capable of longer comfortable adventure touring highway stints with some moderate back road excursions thrown in. And with 2 cylinders perhaps a pillion could even be possible. The only reason it didn't make my short list of bikes to consider, I thought it was butt ugly. Something about that stacked round headlight makes it look like a droopy eyed cyclops, or even an angry praying mantis (especially in the Kawasaki green, something I also never fully understood). |
But Kawasaki has made some styling modifications that has put this motorcycle in the running. They've made some modifications to improve suspension and performance but the changes to the styling of the headlight section is by far what I consider the best part. I like the new styling of the 2015 Kawasaki 650 Versys to dare to say it is one of the better looking adventure motorcycles now on the market, competing with the likes of BMW and Triumph. Unfortunately I wasn't able to find a royalty free image to post of the new model but a quick google search for 2015 Kawasaki Versys 650 will get you results. No price has been announced yet for the US but that is expected to happen later this year or maybe even at AIMExpo taking place in Florida Oct 16-19. With the 2014 versys having an MSRP of $7,999, I'd expect this one to come in at slightly higher. Or maybe we'll be lucky and see a drop - wishful thinking I guess.
Now if you've been following this blog I'll bet you're wondering about the Cyclone RX3 that I have my name on the list for. More on that next post - having a little bit of a crisis in the decision making department these days.
